Ashwagandha is an adaptogen traditionally used to restore balance after stress or trauma. Cultivated mainly in India, Nepal, China, and Yemen, this herb is also known as Indian ginseng. Its tea has an earthy, slightly bitter taste but can be sweetened when combined with honey, cardamom, hazelnut, turmeric, and cherry juice.
Those with autoimmune conditions such as RA and lupus should not take ashwagandha tea. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should abstain from ashwagandha tea. People on blood pressure and diabetes medications should limit or avoid use of ashwagandha tea, as it may interact with these drugs.
